David
Raleigh. Anyone who loves music and seeks out amazing talent knows his name. His
original, yet classic sophisticated style combined with his imaginative, creative,
contemporary rhythms have kept New Yorkers and Europeans delighted for years.
Never satisfied they return to see him and hear his soulful stylings again and
again. David Raleigh was born in Rochester, New York. Moving
to Seattle, Washington at the age of four, it was there that he began his musical
training. Raised in a religious family, his early years were spent performing
at churches, nursing homes and missions throughout the Seattle area. His ability
to play by ear and his love of people opened many doors. Receiving a scholarship
to attend Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, he began to take seriously his
desire to become an entertainer. Recognized as a child prodigy, David was named
to the "Who's Who Book of Music" in 1979. David's
love of entertaining was truly cultivated when he traveled the country singing
to raise money for his college. It was during this period that he was "discovered"
and signed to record his first album, "Totally Psyched." The success
of this collection of original songs led David to move to California where his
traveling continued as he toured as an opening act for Amy Grant, Sweet Comfort
and The Archers. It was in 1983 that David began what would
truly become his passion: supper club entertaining. His personality and knowledge
of just the right kind of music to play for any occasion made him a must at the
restaurants in town and in 1986 he was named :Orange County Entertainer of the
Year." It was in this same year that David realized that he needed to be
in New York City. Upon his arrival, his desire for perfection and his charming
sophisticated persona immediately gained him attention. While performing nightly
at t New York's exclusive supper clubs, he began also to showcase his amazing
songwriting abilities at music venues all over the city. Through his performances
at private parties, and his summer appearances in The Hamptons, his following
began to grow, and the beginnings of his notoriety were born. After
being a winner on the hit television show, "Star Search" in 1989, David
began a tour of Europe. The Europeans loved David. He appeared in two German feature
films as himself, recorded a dance single, did numerous radio and television interviews,
and collected a huge fan base that still follows him around the world. It was
a marvelous three years, and David's life and music were forever changed for the
better. In 1993 David returned to New York, this time with
his mind set on opening a supper club where he could cultivate his desire to combine
good food and his music into a nightly experience for all to enjoy. Furthering
his "education" he continued to perform at the newest and hottest restaurants
and clubs, learning all that he could from the owners and managers while seeking
the perfect location to create his dream. "Club Raleigh at the Oaks"
opened in the fall of 1998 in Greenwich Village to outstanding reviews. David's
sense of design and standards of musical excellence were showcased to the critic's
delight, pushing him further into the New York spotlight. His
clientele grows daily by leaps and bounds. 300-400 people attend his yearly birthday/charity
extravaganzas, and his CD, "Never Alone," released in 1994 is already
on its second pressing. Being called by many the "Bobby Short for the New
Millennium," David continues to "wow" audience across the globe
with his unprecedented talent, vision, and incredible music. |
